The Juki HZL-355ZW-A is a domestic mechanical machine with a notably adjustable setup: separate stitch controls, presser-foot pressure adjustment and drop feed. Those functions make it worth examining for varied garment work. They do not turn it into one of Juki’s industrial or straight-stitch-only machines.
The suffix matters
Juki’s exact HZL-355ZW-A brochure identifies 26 sewing patterns, an automatic needle threader, white LED lighting and a one-step buttonhole. The linked instruction book covers the HZL-350Z series; use the correct model’s stitch chart and supplied equipment rather than borrowing a specification from an adjacent HZL model.

Four adjustments worth understanding

Juki publishes a 4 mm maximum stitch length, 7 mm maximum width and 750-stitch-per-minute ceiling. The speed number is a maximum, not a minimum controllable pace. Ask to try slow starts and a corner rather than evaluating the machine only while it runs quickly across plain cotton.
The standard carton is not an unlimited foot collection
The brochure lists standard, zipper, buttonhole and button-sewing feet, along with smaller sewing accessories and a hard case. Juki’s product page lists walking and quilting feet separately as optional accessories. Confirm compatible part numbers and actual inclusion if a seller advertises a quilting bundle.
A hard case helps with storage, but it is not evidence of airline-safe transport. Compare the complete setup you will lift and store, including the controller and any additional table, rather than the machine body alone.
Test a change of fabric, not a dramatic stack
For garment use, a more revealing demonstration moves from a normal seam to a light edge, then to a realistic folded junction. Use appropriate needles and supported settings. Keep the fabric moving through its own feed; resistance, repeated strikes or a hard handwheel are reasons to stop.
