These are manufacturer specifications, not measured results. Elna’s comparison distinguishes the 680+ from the 720PRO, including their different bed configurations and feeding equipment. Decide whether the workflow justifies the machine
Before paying for a larger sewing setup, identify the task your present machine makes awkward. Is it supporting fabric, changing between garment and patchwork work, or repeatedly stopping to reposition your hands? A useful demonstration should answer that question. A longer feature list alone does not establish an improvement for your sewing.
The 680+ documentation describes a knee lifter and automatic thread-cutting control. Try both in your normal sitting position: the value of a hands-free control depends on whether you can reach it comfortably at your table. The manufacturer’s 680+ instruction book is the reference for operating and changing the machine’s setup.
For a quilt, bring a representative fabric sandwich and ask to try the intended quilting foot and table arrangement. For clothing, include an ordinary seam and an awkward-to-support piece from a similar project. These are recommended buying checks, not evidence that this machine has passed our tests on those materials.
The anniversary label does not verify the box contents
Elna’s anniversary-era upcycling project refers to bonus feet supplied with the 680+ special anniversary edition. That establishes an edition-specific accessory context, but it does not prove what remains with a used machine or what a present-day retailer includes.
Request photographs of the model label and the complete accessory set. Ask separately about the controller, knee lifter, extension table, needle plates, feet, cover and instructions. Get missing-item costs and the seller’s return or service terms before comparing offers. We would not value an anniversary badge above a documented, complete machine in suitable condition.
Our buying conclusion
The 680+ belongs on a shortlist when its working arrangement and controls address a specific frustration in your garment sewing or patchwork. It should not be bought on the assumption that it is a 720PRO, that every anniversary package is identical, or that a domestic machine’s specifications prove unrestricted heavy-material capability.
